Everyone Anton Waker grew up with is corrupt. His parents deal in stolen goods and his first career is a partnership venture with his cousin Aria selling forged passports and social security cards to illegal aliens. Anton longs for a less questionable way of living in the world and by his late twenties has reinvented himself as a successful middle manager. Then a routine security check suggests that things are not quite what they appear. And Aria begins blackmailing him to do one last job for her. But the seemingly simple job proves to have profound and unexpected repercussions.Emily St. John Mandel follows up her electric debut with a spellbinding novel of international crime, false identities, the depths and limits of family ties, and the often confusing bonds of love. Taut with suspense, beautifully imagined, full of unexpected corners, desperate choices, betrayals and halftruths with deadly consequences, The Singer`s Gun explores the dangerous territory between one`s moral compass and the heart`s desire.

The Singer quickly became a favorite of evangelists, pastors, artists, students, teachers and readers of all sorts when it was originally published in 1975. Retelling the story of Christ through an allegorical and poetic narrative of a Singer whose Song could not be silenced, Miller's work reinvigorated Christian literature and offered believers and seekers the world over a deeply personal encounter with the gospel. Now available in hardcover for the first time in many years, this edition features a new cover illustration by Jerry Tiritilli to complement the classic interior illustrations by Joe DeVelasco. Miller also includes a new preface in which he reveals how he came to write The Singer and how he, like so many other readers, has been transformed by its imaginative power."The Singer is one of a handful of contemporary Christian works that will still be read a century from now." Michael Duduit, editor of Preaching"The Singer is one of those rare books that cannot have enough good said about it. It absolutely sings to us of the greatness and goodness of the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ." Richard Foster, author of Celebration of Discipline"The Singer is a classic." Leonard Sweet, author of SoulTsunamiHere--again, or for the first time--is the opportunity to experience the good news as you are drawn to and immersed in this magnificent tale.

Then she manages to escape, along with her longtime nursemaid and a mysterious enchanter-priest. First Gwenore is hidden at an abbey where she learns to read and make music. Then she is discovered. Her name and appearance changed, she is moved to the women's healing community of Blessingwood, and is taught medicine and herbwork. But then tragedy strikes again, and she must leave. As Mary Singer, she becomes nursemaid to the children of the magical king of Lir-until the king marries Rhiamon. Singer knows that her mother will try to kill the children. Magnet (Singer-Songwriter) - The Tourniquet [PA] Magnet (Singer-Songwriter) - The Tourniquet [PA]
$12.49

Magnet: Even Johansen (vocals, various instruments, programming).Even Johansen`s second album under the Magnet moniker is a lushly produced collection of dreamy bedroom ballads. The Tourniquet compares favorably to efforts from Johansen`s singer/songwriter peers such as Josh Rouse, Ron Sexsmith, and Jason Falkner; the latter`s fingerprints are all over the album as a producer and general collaborator. While syrupy tunes like "Fall at Your Feet" and "Miss Her So" might paint Magnet as an unhip, dreamy confectioner, listeners weaned on heart-on-their-sleeve artists like Keane, Rufus Wainwright, and David Gray will find the confessionalist footing here quite familiar. Gray`s White Ladder-style electronic-gurgling undercurrent is a clear influence on these 11 tracks, but counting the bpm would be a mistake, because the album has an acoustic heart underneath its electronic sheen. Magnet`s calling cards are tales of lost loves, earnest lullaby-like vocals, and a slowly strummed guitar. The strongest moments come with the opener and closer, but everything that flows between them ebbs and flows with grace and restraint. While this restraint adds to the album`s cohesive feel, it wouldn`t have necessarily been a bad thing if Johansen had returned to the bite of "Hold On" a bit more. It`s not always a good idea to sequence an album`s strongest track first. But there`s little reason to nitpick given that The Tourniquet is such a smooth, delightful whole. ~ Tim DiGravina Copyright (C) Muze Inc. 2005. For personal use only. All rights reserved.

It's in the Cards: Excavating the Authentic Self Using the Tarot as a Guide, explores the deeper meaning of the twenty - two cards of the tarot known as the major arcana, the archetypes they symbolize, and their connection to the higher consciousness of the authentic self. Author Aine Butler shares insight into the symbolism of the major arcana and the relationship they have in representing not only major archetypes, but developmental stages throughout and beyond a physical lifetime as well. Each card is explained in detail and then related to the stage of development represented. It's in the Cards offers information that will guide through the process of connecting to the authentic self, including: Finding one's life purpose Relationships and the role they play Facing up to choices Rediscovering lost or abandoned skills and talents Exploring the “mid-life” crisis Being a co-creator Overcoming limitations and fears connected to aging and change Understanding the inner processes that affect outer events It's in the Cards also offers instructions for creating a deck; making it an all around valuable guide to be used throughout a lifetime. But when Declan Kelso, the school's newest hottie, starts looking her way, the future starts looking really good. What, besides fate, could persuade Mr. Cool to join the chorus's gaggle of geeks? But have the girls read the cards correctly? Or have Anna's hopes and fears led her to misinterpret the cards' true meaning? What happens makes for a funny, suspenseful story, the first in a series of three told by Anna, Eve, and Syd, three very different girls who discover that life is never as neatly laid out as you want it to be.
