autographed sports memorabilia
Online Sports memorabilia?

How can one ensure that autographed merchandise bought online is authentic?

Usually memorabilia will come with a certificate of authenticity. Also, good memorabilia will have a seal of authenticity as well.

I recently purchased a piece of memorabilia and it came with both, plus a photo of the athlete signing it.

I can vouch for this site, as I have purchased from it before.
